How to record all parts at the same time
With ChorusClass you can record the parts anytime, anywhere. But you can also record them one time, somewhere! Together with Harmony Heights we experimented with recording all parts into ChorusClass simultaneously. Here are some learnings:
The Uppsala based barbershop choir Harmony Heights has been using ChorusClass for some time. And even though the part leaders could record on their own, it was hard to capture the dynamics and feeling the director was going for. So they decided to try recording all the part leaders at once, led by the director. This makes it easier to sing in harmony, both pitch-wise and dynamics-wise, but adds its own set of challenges:
- Start recording at the same time to sync the tracks
- Keeping one part to leak into another parts microphone
The first challenge proved nearly impossible, even with the director going "Record.. now!". So the solution was instead to synchronize the tracks afterwards. (If you and your choir wants help with this, feel free to contact us)
The solution to the second challenge was to stand far apart, trying not to sing "at" each other. And it worked impressively well! Even though you can hint the other parts in the background, you get a clear enough part isolation for practice purposes.
So if you want to try this yourself:
- Stand far apart
- Contact us for help with synchronization
Happy singing!
